Magura master cylinder

Hi all, I've got a Marin Alpine Trail 2004 vintage fitted with Magura Julies. The bike had done so little mileage when I bought it in June, that it still had its original tyres with the dimples still on. Anyway, to the point, since I've had the bike, the piston in the rear brake master cylinder has been sticking in. Sometimes, when it springs back you can actually hear it hitting the lever. Also, sometimes you go for the brake and initially it feels like there's nothing under the lever(no pressure) until it moves that little bit. Hope that makes sense.
I have tried swapping the pistons over, but the result is the same. I assume then, that it must be problem with the master cylinder. Could it be that it still needs bedding in? Is there any repair I can do? Should I be looking for a new master cylinder?
Sorry this is a bit long winded, but I wanted to give as much info as possible. Thanks in advance, Steve.
