I have a Kinesis Crosslight Evo 3 bike...whilst giving it a good clean today I noticed a 8mm or so hair line crack in the paintwork on top of the non drive side chain stay at the bottom braket join. :?

Not sure if it is below the frames lacquer or not.

Is this just cosmetic given the stress of cross racing or something more sinister ?

Never noticed this on any of my other bikes before.

Any thoughts ?

thanks

I had a similar crack on my KiC2 where the carbon stays were shot into the BB. I sent pictures off to Kinesis who called me the next day to tell me it was just in the filler used to smooth off the joint and as such was just cosmetic. They had no problems offering me a replacement though, for peace of mind more than anything else.

Am I right in thinking the Evo 3 has aluminium stays? I'd be worried it's more than cosmetic. It will be worth sending them some pics and see what they think. They're very helpful, a joy to deal with, and if it's still under warranty you will have no problems getting it changed. Dom is the man you need to speak to.

Thanks for that....I'll send them a photo and see what they say.

The chain stay is aluminium and I too think it may be more than cosmetic but hope not. If I had the black frame I would never have seen it !!!.

Just realised that the crack will have been caused by the heavy Kryptonite New york chain and pad lock which secures it to the walll dropping from several feet above the frame onto it when it fell out of the wall lug. The damage is consistant with impact damage to the paintwork from the above.....so panic over.
