Value of frame?

A friend of mine who's a cycling newbie bought a sight-unseen Spesh Tarmac(2006 model)which, apart from the frame/post/steering had been cobbled together with odds and sods from a bike shop, mostly tiagra and 105, with pretty awful wheels and hubs.
Now, the frame itself is in fantastic nick and deserves an upgrade on the drive and wheels, but Im in two minds whether to rebuild or just advise the guy to sell the bike and invest in a proper sportive, which would meet his needs.
Anyone got any idea what the frame alone is worth, say on Ebay, ballpark?
At the moment theres mostly newer fully specced spesh bikes on but nothing I can get an idea from.

Take a look at 'completed listings' on ebay and you'll see exactly what these go for. Shouldn't be hard to find a few.0
