I'm running campag chorus 9spd from 1993 (end shifter TT set-up). I want to change to a standard road set-up with ergo levers. Will any 9spd campag shifters work? Or are there compatibility issues?

Thanks in advance

Dave

If you have 1993 Chorus 9 speed then for godsake don't use it....it must be worth a fortune, not even Campag equipped pros got their hands on 9 speed until 1997

Your best bet would be to post a pic of the rear mech to correctly date it....Mk2 9 speed came out in 2000 and the two versions need different ratchets to deal with the slightly different mech geometry.
I'd rather walk than use Shimano
  • Hmm, thanks Rob

I thought it was 93 but maybe 97 then. It was defo before 98 as that's when I met the mrs. and had the bike before then.....

I can still post a pic if necessary

The cable pull on 9 speed ergos changed circa 2000 to match 10 speed, but I've used older 9 speed Ergos with recent mechs without difficulty, so doubt you'll have a problem going the other way. Campagnolo advise differently, but you have to take these statements with a pinch of scepticism
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabID=3946 would suggest there is a very definite difference - though only the same difference as that between equivalent Shimano and Campag which people seem to manage to get to work. Since you're eating into the system tolerances it would undoubtedly be less tolerant of a bit of cable stretch or component wear. You're definitely better off getting the right bits if you can - that article does suggest you can get an old pull 9-speed ratchet for a current (pre 2009!) Ergo.

Interesting to note there's already a Campag 11-speed update on that page - no comment on Campag rear mech geometry having changed as I've seen suggested, so maybe you can use a 10-speed mech with 11...
