What forum do I "fit" in?

Hi

I am 58 and was recently told by my GP to lose weight and get more exercise, to assist the pills (calcium blockers) in lowering my blood pressure.

My son recently gave me his old Diamond Back S10 full suspension MTB and I have been out riding virtually every evening since (45 - 60 mins or so). I live between Canterbury and Whitstable and my ride takes in part of the Crab & Winkle route and the adjoining gravel & stone covered tracks/roads plus a bit of tarmac road. I do not and have no intention (at the moment, anyway) of venturing into the woods for "proper" cross-country stuff.

I am waiting for Wiggle to send me a couple of Continental Double Fighters and then I intend to do some longer Kent tarmac based rides at the weekends. I've also invested in a bike rack for the car, so we'll be venturing further afield as well.

So....although I have a Mountain Bike, I am not really a Mountain Biker! Nor am I really a Commuter, or a Road Racer, or a Family.

What classification do I fit into???????

You are a cyclist there is no such thing as "proper riding" if you ride a pedal powered 2 wheeler it doesnt matter what you ride where you ride when you ride as long as you ride everything else is just marketing

Welcome to the club its good to have you :D

    Why, thanks, Stubs!!

What I'm really getting at is which forum is going to be most useful to me, based on my kind of riding.....i.e for rides, health, bike setup advice-wise??

(OT: Annie and I will be in Birkdale/Southport on Monday and Tuesday (with our bikes, just in case!). Do you know of any rides in that area?)

If your not sure which section to put a question in just stick it in the MTB general section or the beginners section and one of the moderators will move it to the section they think is best. Youll soon get the hang of it and dont be afraid to check out the road sections they tend to be the best for health and fitness tips. Anything about your bike stick it in the tech section but check the stickies and always do a keyword search first before posting what you are asking may only have been covered in detail a few days ago.

If your coming up to Southport I have put a few links up for you Rivington is good for general mild off roading go to the tourist info at the Great Barn Rivington Horwich they do laminated trail maps and most of the routes stay in the park and keep off the roads. if you just want to ride off road on firm trails the Transpennine is good and its flatter than a very flat thing thats been run over by a steam roller. The Southport tourist info on Eastbank st sells the maps £4 I think and very good value. Merseytravel do a nice series of booklets mapping quiet rural road rides linking up various railway stations try Southport station on Chapel st or Birkdale station on Liverpool rd booking office they are free. The Leeds Liverpool canal is nice for a ride and there are lots of pubs that do real ale and lunches though the tow path is a bit slithery at the moment.

If you want any more ride ideas let me know and I will sort you out with some nice rides :)
