I'm thinking of getting a carbon synapse, I have found one locally in a 56 at evans, I'm 6"1' and they think it fits well, is this is likely?

Does any one know the if the frames come up large?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I rIde a 56cm carbon frame, I am about 185 tall normal proportions - only thing I did was put a 130mm stem to allow me to stretch out too short with std 100.
  • I've got two Cannondales, a Six13 road and a 105 SL cyclocross. Both are 56cm (although very very slightly different geometries).

Both fit me fine, but I'm (only!) 5 foot 10 or 11. Also, because of a slightly dodgy back I like a slightly "upright" position. In other words, I'm not at all stretched out on the 56cm size.

So it sounds a bit small for you at 6 foot 1, unless you want to put a longer stem on it.

    Hope this helps.

Worry about top tube length and reach - if you're not sure what you need, worth getting a bike fit done to save any expensive mistakes - for your height, you're probably looking for a 57-58cm toptube, based on average proportions and flexibility - I'd definitely try a 58cm before you commit,
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I've just bought a 56cm System six with 11cm stem. First proper ride will be tomorrow!
I did a quick test ride before I bought it and found that it is just long enough. I may have to move the seat back a bit or use a 12cm stem, I'll see tomorrow.

I'm 5' 11''. I think that you may need the next size up for your height.
  • I'm also 5'11" on a 56cm system six and it's a good fit.

I'm 5' 9 1/2" and have had a six13 54cm for three weeks, or so. I'm doing 20 mile rides at least 3 times per week and the size seems good for me at this distance. Comfortable in all positions but when off the seat and up on the pedals it shfits like a rocket.

  • I'd say 56 is on the small side. At the very least you should test ride a couple of sizes rather than take Evan's word for it - they're not exactly renowned for expertise.
  • Thanks all, I think you're all right, too small, shame I wanted it to fit at that price, oh well.

    Thanks all
  • I'm 6'1" and comfortable on my 58cm Cannondale Synapse Carbon frame.

I'm a bit over 6' and on a CAAD7 I'm actually a bit stretched on a 56cm. The top tube comes up quite long. Had to shorten the stem to fit. But then again I'm all arms and legs.

A synapse will have a more upright position though
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

Don't quite understand that comment - on a size 56 the horizontal top tube length IS actually 56cm (see Cannondale's web site, bike geometry).

I'm 6'1" and I ride a 58 cm Cannondale CAAD5 with an 11 cm stem (the one pictured in my avatar on the left). I have fairly short legs for my height (33" inside leg) so more of my height is in my upper body than usual. I don't know if later Cannondale models have similar geometry.
  • I am 5'9" and ride a Cannondale Synapse on a 56cm frame. To be honest, we were concerned it would be too big, which is contrary to what I read above. But, I have short legs and long body and I have found the fit to be great, so it is not a case of one size fits all based on height. Now I have the seat in the right position and clip on pedals, the bike fits great and I can go for miles (I do about 50 miles every Saturday) without any aches or pains.
