Allez Sport setup
08 Allez Sport comes with 11-28 cassette & tiagra rear deraileur. Cannot adjust b-tension so that jockey wheel properly clears 28 cog - not suprising as shimano spec says max 27 teeth. If i put in longer b-tension screw will that make changing at smaller cogs sloppy? I live in Essex so unlikely to make much use of big cog - is occcasional use likey to damage anything?

Is that a SRAM cassette??
As said, big problem in sight cause, the Tiagra rear deraiileur only takes 27 teeth...
Try to adjust it as close as possible of the large sprocket, without any rattle sound when you are turning the cranks and adjust your cable tension afterwards to see what's happening...
I don't figure any other way to solve this up,
Good luck!0 -
yes its SRAM. odd when rest of groupset is tiagra. I think I'll swap it for the Tiagra 12-25 block. I'm not so unfit as to need the 28, but not fit enough to make proper use of 11. Have contacted Specialized suggesting they send me ome gratis - not likely0

Well try, the worst will be that they refuse...
You can go with a 12-25 Tiagra cassette or and old 105 9 speed 12-25 (don't know if they were doing a 12-27 ond 9spd, I got one, but 10 spd)
12-27 with a compact 50-34 covers almost everything, from hill climbing to reasonable speed on flat terrain...0 -
I have this problem with a 12-27 Shimano 105 cassette and a Dura Ace rear mech (it should take a 27) - it is very slight but the jockey wheel is bouncing on the cassette, B screw fully wound in - will a longer B screw be acceptable to resolve this?0

I think I have read somewhere that for the B Screw to have the desired effect the chain needs to be the correct length (not to long) - does anyone know if this is correct? If so, the OP and I may have our chains too long!0

Maybe your chain is too long / low tension :?:He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0 -

Yes, removed 2 links, now it works fine and I could slack off the B screw a little too.
jpallen - consider trying this, even though Shimano spec says 27 teeth, I have heard many people run 28 without problem, indeed my girlfriend's Trek 1.2 has a 12-28 SRAM cassette running with a Sora mech and its fine.0 -
cheers , you could well be right about the chain length - I'll have a look at that. I don,t think I'll be changing the block for a while - used the 11 & 28 quite a today0
