frame worth repairing?

Hello

had a minor prang this morning, I only sustained a grazed elbow but my I suspect my poor bike is a write off - It looks like the only damage is a bent seat stay (think the wheels got knocked out of true but not far) There was clearly an impact about a third of the way up and it looks like it has started to pinch, and has moved inwards about 15mm. I'll post a couple of photos when photobucket is back up (sort of new here, is there a better way of posting photos?), but basically my question is: is this worth repairing (it's a bit of a walk to the bike shop so I thought I'd guage opinion here first!

The bike is an almost brand new (yep, gutted!) Kona paddy waggon - single speed road bike.

Cheers

Toby

It will be hard to judge unless it's really bad. Steel frames can be realigned, so it may well be possible to just bend the stay back again. You'll have to take it to a shop to find out for sure. Also, Kona may have some kind of crash replacement policy or may be willing to sell you a frame.

argos racing will do the repair, as would most framebuiilders i'd imagine.

If someone knocked you off then I presume you will seek recompense for your losses - or was the prang unaided?

right, here's the link to the pics. in some of them I'm holding a straight bit of metal studwork or something up so you can see the damage:

failing that, unless my dad has chucked it out I have an old road frame with horizontal drop outs, or the on-one frames look pretty tasty!
  • If it's a steel frame then you could get the seat stay replaced. Would mean a respray though. Bob Jackson would do this for you.

I have a pomp (as well as my 456 ) and it is a right laugh, wouldn't be too bad a manouver for you can would probably cost the same as a seatstay replacement and re-spray.

Was aided by a car but I think I am largely responsible - arrived at a pedestrian crossing wanting to cross and the green man started flashing a little before I got there. Thinking I had the momentum to be across sharpish I went for it, and the car in the far lane ouf of the two was probably pulling away on the flashing amber. Hence the low speed of collision

First time I've actually been hit and it is really funny how everything slows down, I actually had time to think 'bugger...... oh well he's not going very fa *crunch*' I'm philosophical about the damage, it's only stuff. If we're putting values on things I probably did much more £'s of damage to his car than my bike, and as I may well have been in the wrong I wouldn't want to push it - he seemed happy to walk away. If I felt he'd been in the wrong I would persue it on principle, not for the compensation ;0)

By the way, just been to the LBS to get a wheel for my spare bike fixed, and the chappie said the frame prob wasn't repairable as it's steel but TIG welded. It also turns out my dad hasn't chucked that old frame, and I'm feeling skint so I'll wait before investing in that pompino frame!

Thanks to all for the comments
