Is continuos riding going to build my leg muscles? Or do I have to concentrate on my legs in the gym?

Not an expert in this field but i've done my fair share of cycling and GYM.

It depends on how much you push at cycling. IF you take it easy on flats and downhills then probably going to just tone. Pushing yourself so they burn, be that lower gears or on hills you should see an increase in mass and definition over time depending on your cycling frequencies, distance, travel and diet.

The GYM will allow you to build other muscle groups and overall help develop bigger muscle mass overall. You don't really see cyclists with bodybuilders legs.

Depends on what you want to acheive.

Squats and presses if you want large muscles, plenty of cycling if you want toned, defined muscles.

You'll also want to eat plenty of protein, possibly using supplements, if its large muscles you want.

Bloody hard to have large (Chris Hoy size) muscles and be able to ride any sort of distance though.

As a basic example. If you (not you personally) are sedentary and decide to start cycling and just keep at your aerobic threshold, you will plateau pretty quick and you'll probably just strenghten the muscles you already have.

In a nutshell when you go out, make sure you do plenty of sprints, you should be feeling plenty of lactic acid. Eat well - don't skimp on the calories.
