  • That looks bad Nicola. I had a huge roll of 'Duck Tape' in the motor to which I had wrapped around the headstock , chainstay and other holes in the frame to keep out water and prevent chaffing. Seems to have worked so far.
No idea how much 'copter tape is but you get a blooming great roll of duck for a fiver from homebase etc.

Reet then, I have taken a close look at the pictures. And here is what I think.

Seen this a lot in my time. The cable has rubbed the paint away, and in some places exposed the alu under which has oxidised giving a certian look. This then gets rubbed too.

I'm afraid it is owner error! Sorry to say that, but anything like that in contact with the frame should have frame protection.

    After only 2 weeks??!!

Yes - big cables locks shouldn't be hung from the bike and left to rub the frame!

'Fraid I agree with Supersonic - the other half used to commute with lock hanging off the handlebars because it wouldn't fit in the frame. 1 working week and there was a nice shiny groove right next to the stem on an otherwise black handlebar... Had to get her a new handlebar and rucksack to carry said lock.

If you're commuting down a muddy path, even the slightest bit of grit on the lock/frame will just rub away like sandpaper. If you don't want to spoil the pretty pink bike with flaps of gaffer tape, have a look on Wiggle for frame protectors and get yourself some of the leather carbon ones - just give the bike a good clean first!

Guess I'll have to get a nail varnish that matches...

Lol. You have been unlucky, done it myself and learned (gouged a big groove in a headset cup)
  • anybody ever tried this:

    http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/Product/81 ... -pack.html

bit pricey i thought like, but if it protects the whole frame from like stonechips and what not. Was just wondering if anyone had any opinions thats all.

Also, will a chain tensioner(this) reduce chain slap at all ?

Can't believe no-one has mentioned the clear/carbon frame protectors that halfords do. Get some, problem solved. They are the reason why i've little cable rub on my bikes.
  • Are you mainly using the bike to commute to and from work? Why not buy another lock, leave one at work and one at home. Just don't forget your keys!

    No lock = No chafing!

A bit pricey??? nearly £20 with postage for some precut pieces of clear plastic is a downright rip off!!! Buy a roll of adhesive clear film off ebay and cut your own to size with a pair of scissors... you'll save a fortune.
