Help with rattling Xero XR1 lite wheels
My otherwise delightfull Xero wheels have developed a rattle at the back, and I have narrowed it down to the drive side bearing nut - item 7 on drawing - coming loose.
I can tighten it up but it loads the bearings and drags the wheel to a grind, or tighten it just enough to remove play but it then wobbles loose almost straight away when riding.
I can't see anything missing or anything else obviously wrong and I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas?

Tightening up the nut shouldn't really load the bearing too much, just compress the inner races and the sleeve etc.. all together. Does it really drag a lot, or just a bit? If it's just a bit you won't notice it on the bike.
Otherwise you can put some thread lock (loctite) on the thread to hold it in place without "overtightening". I think they should come with this on from the factory so maybe yours didn't and have worked loose.
It may also be that your bearings are strting to go, as these don't last fantastically long. If the rim moves slightly from side to side when you hold it and apply a bit of force then they are on the way out. Get some new from a bearing supplier (loads online) and knock the old ones out and pop the new in. Not sure about the bearings in the freehub though, these may be OK and a bit harder to replace from my experiences.

Pop the freehub off, 5, 6, 7 & 8 on your picture and fit the thinnest washer you can find between 2 & 5. You should now be able to tighten the nut up slightly more.
Also, you can put a dab of threadlock on the end of the axle but make sure the thread is properly degreased first.0
