On a trail bike the chain guide is possibly a bit redundant and just adds weight (and expense).

Best bet is to ditch the outer ring for a bash guard, and change the middle ring for one slightly bigger than the 32T standard (I use a 34T ring but you could go for a 36T if you want higher gearing)

The just set your front mech up so that you can't shift onto the now non-existant outer ring and off you go.

Just FYI, I use a Shimano Hone chainset with a 22T Blackspire Chuck inner ring, a 34T Blackspire Super Pro middle ring and a Blackspire C4 Lite Ring God bash ring. That set-up gives me enough gears for 99% of UK trail riding.

Like you I just don't use the outer ring and even with the setup that I have I can spin along at 20mph on a flat road without looking like a tool.

DMR dual roller guide with an MRP roller, 26t small chainring, 36t middle chainring, 36t bashring.

I've got this set up on 2 of my bikes. No bother with it at all :D
