headtube and stem

could some one explain to me what 1.5" and 1.1/8" means on the stem description i assume its something to do with the width of the steering tube size if so how do you measure properly any answers would be most appreciated thanks.

    it is the diameter of the steerer tube of the fork.

  • do you measure from the outside of the headtube and fork, i know these are simple questions but i just wont to get it spot on as the parts im wanting to get are not very cheap cheers.

    it depends on what you are wanting to measure.

    for the steerer it is the out side while it is the inside for the stem.

    bars outside/ stem inside.

    seat post out side/ seat tube inside.
