Wheel Truing

After very slowly getting myself round 5 hours of the Cheddar Bikefest when cleaning my bike I noticed the front wheel is now a lot less 'true' then it was before (presumably down to some rocky downhill sections). Basically there is about half an inch of 'wobble' for each rotation of the wheel. As I'm a beginner at both riding and fixing bikes retruing the wheel is beyond me. My LBS will sort it for £12.

Basically how far out does a wheel have to be before it becomes a problem? I appreciate it will be less efficient but will it cause any other problems? I'm tempted to leave it for the moment but don't want to make anything worse. ~The rear wheel is also out but to a lesser degree. Any advice gratefully recieved.

an untrue wheel is a wheel that is not dynamically strong.

So get it fixed, or get it replaced before or after it fails.

Oh and 1/2" is at about where it is good to be getting it sorted. Less can be OKish and more is just trouble.
