Fulcrum R1s Vs Dalkiia SixZeros - what to do?

A bit of advice if you will...

I'm currently running Fulcrum Racing 1s on my bike, but quite fancy a set of carbon clinchers. I have a buyer willing to give me ok money for my R1s and know someone who is willing to give me a set of brand new Dalkiia SixZeros for not a significant amount more than the sale price of my Fulcrums.

Here's the arguments as I see it, R1s Vs SixZeros:

1550g Vs 1750g
30mm Non-aero rim with aero spokes Vs 60mm Torodial aero rim with aero spokes
Wheels I craved and now have Vs wheels I'm now craving!
Wheels I know I like Vs wheels I might not like, but equally might like more
Proven Vs not a lot of info (but the info there is points to them being very good for the money)
'Big gun' Vs 'Underdog' (but I often back the underdog...)
Great looking Vs would need a bit of de-stickering but would then also be great looking!

Here's what my R1s look like:

And here's what the SixZeros look like on the same bike (try to ignore all the lairy red - it's not mine and I think it's way OTT, but each to their own!):

(I would look to remove at least the larger Dalkiia logos!)

As for my riding - at the moment I'm really just doing 15-18mph training rides lasting between 1 and 5hrs, but I do plan to start doing some club rides and am seriously beginning to consider doing some racing next year.

So what's the verdict? What would you do? Obviously in an ideal world I'd have both, but then in an ideal world I'd go for full carbon tub's as my 'good' wheels and keep the R1s for training! And I'd have an S3 rather than the Soloist Team... and so it goes on...!

From a completely selfish point of view I say get the Dalkiias, ride them, and then tell us/me all about them. :P

I've been interested in these for a little while now but know very little about them.
There's no local dealer to me and the More Info link on their website was due 15 months ago.
I have Racing 3s and RR1850s for my best bike but fancy something with a deeper rim. Oh and I think they'd look pretty cool on my Wilier.

Do you have other wheels? If not would you really want to dish out a winters worth of abuse to them?

if they are you're only wheels i'd stick with the fulcrums. a 60mm rim is not for everyday/every condition. You could use the fulcrums any day, regardless of the weather
The dalkia's use HED hubs which have apparently been improved - they used to have a reputation for being fragile. Overall they look reasonably strong, but then they should with a 60mm rim.

I imagine you would notice the weight difference all right, the fulcrums will more likely spin up nicer and climb better, although once up to speed the dlakia's should maintain that speed a lot easier.

keep the fulcrums and buy the dalkia's! deep rims will make 90% of bikes look faster...
  • I'm kind of in the same postion - in that I want some deep Carbon Clinchers and own Fulcrum 0's and 1's. I've looked at the Dalkiia's too but just don't know enough about them. The Dalkiia's worry me in that there is precious little info available on them. Carbon wheels are a big investment. I'm much more tempted by the new Reynolds or some FFWD's both because I know more about their provenance. The FFWD's are available with DT Swiss hubs as well, there is precious little info on Dalkiia's hubs. The Fulcrum's are top wheels backed by the experience and know how of Campag and I'm loathe to swap them with an unknown quality.

That red on that soloist team actually makes a normally poor looking bike look far better.

You cannt de-sticker the Dalkiias Rich - they are not stickers but proper transfers that you would have to sand off

Yup, found that out this evening! Cheers for the heads-up though Richard! 8)
  • If you really want deep section clinchers get a set of Mavic Cosmic Carbone Premiums rather than the Dalkias.

They are similar to the Dalkias but tried and tested and bulletproof. Even then, although they're nice, full carbon tubs are soooo much nicer :-)

FFWD are getting a good write up and feedback from people I know riding them (though provenance of the rims is still a bit of mystery) and Reynolds are also well worth considering IMO. I wouldn't trust full carbon clinchers - a blowout on a fast descent is liable to shred the rims and you forego 50-100g of the weightsavings in the rim versus tubular rims...
