Fulcrum Torq R or Ultegra SL?

A simple request for your opinion...
At the end of August, I took ownership of a delightful new machine based around a Colnago CLX frame (red/black). I was looking to kit it out with Ultegra SL groupset.
It nearly all went to plan - the only 'problem' was that the absence of stocks of a compact Ultegra SL chainset at the time. This led my LBS to suggest they loan me a standard Fulcrum Torq R set, then I could switch back to my original spec when the Shimano hardware arrives.
Although I was originally looking for compact gearing, I have to say I'm more than pleased with the Fulcrum performance. Getting on with it nicely even on the most demanding of my loops around Kent. And admittedly the match with the frame is great (yes, I know, pics required...)
So...what would you do? Stick with the Fulcrum or switch to SL? Hell, I could do both...

Making a cup of coffee is like making love to a beautiful woman. It's got to be hot. You've got to take your time. You've got to stir... gently and firmly. You've got to grind your beans until they squeak.
And then you put in the milk.
And then you put in the milk.

I picked up an Ultegra SL compact from Parkers, for a build I was doing for a mate.
Very nice kit. Very similar to the R700 though.
I say if the Fulcrum works then keep that. If you have to hand it back to the shop then the SL will be fine too. Doesn't really answer your question does it....Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
I'd stick with the Fulcrum - if you can manage your most demanding rides around Kent with it then a compact would feel under-geared by comparison IMO.
Maybe just pick up a 105 compact chainset in case you do anything that might need it.0 -
I've fitted a Fulcrum R chainset this summer and very pleased with it No fliex and lightwieght. Probably lighter than Ultegra and more bling in my book.0

I thought Fulcrum were up there with Campag Record - i.e. better than Dura Ace (or so some would have it)?
You should never, ever downgrade. Trick bits are the best substitute for lack of ability, in my case at least.0 -
Fulcrum R are equal to Chorus and the Fulrum RS to Record. So as far as I can gather. :?0
