I want to buy some new Assos bib tights and bib shorts. There seems to be a big range of options. Which ones are top of the range / most comfortable?

My husband has just bought some 100-mile bib shorts ( I think that's what they're called). They were around £115 and the pad is pretty firm to start with but he says they're brilliant for long rides. Designed to feel quite tight on the braces when you stand up for best riding fit. Very fetching...

As far as the top of the range goes, bib shorts wise, the new S5 series are the newest innovations from Assos, both in contruction and the new insert.

Bib tights, well they do a few different ones, check them out. They are about to release the new winter LL range, with the new S5 Mille insert, which is what I aim to go for this winter. Expensive yes but worth every penny. Once you have had Assos, it's hard to choose anything else tbh. It's a deviation from the Airblock 851 tights, which were very popular:.

They'll probably be at the Cycle show next month in London too. They were last year.

I'd save my money and get a cheaper pair. My Assos F1 shorts are very pretty - but no comfier than club kit costing 1/3 of the price. But thats just my opinion.

I've got quite a bit of Assos kit but to be honest its more because of the name (and, being Swiss, to support the home country). Other kit I've got from other manufacturers is just as good.

That said you probably wont be disappointed.

In shorts the F1 S5 are cheaper but the F1 Mille more comfortable if you will be doing long rides/sportives.

One tip: try before you buy. One reason for the cost is that the clothes are tailored to fit snugly which is great if they are in the right size but uncomfortable if not.

  • mille are designed for comfort, i get on well with them. i'd never buy a bib short mail order, too big and the pad will be in the wrong place, too small and you'll end up with a wedgie.

I shall echo the above comments. Try before you buy, particularly with Assos!!
