I don't recall being disappointed with anything expensive. There have been a few items that realistically weren't worth the money but they performed well, I liked them and to me that's all that matters.

i just got an 08 enduro sl and although i love it, i only had it a week before it needed to be sent away for the fork to be repaired. fair play to spesh they dealt wth it and the fork was back in 2 days, completely overhaued and now working superbly.

as for hope qr, i think they are ace
  • The new Look pedals, lightweight, bling, look great but dont work, takes ages to set them up, you cant adjust the tension and then your feet come out at a bad time!! Dont buy them!!!

Crank Brothers 5050X pedals - biggest pile of garbage going.

The bearings on mine worked loose after seven miles. I stripped them, regreased and rebuilt them (which as an enormous faff because of the size of them) only to have them work loose again within another 20 miles.

The seals are worse than useless and the bearing cones aren't hardened properly and have worn after less than 50 miles use. The only good thing that I can say is that the big platforms support my size 10s perfectly and they're plenty grippy.

I sent an e-mail to Crank Brothers to tell them what I thought of these pedals and the fact that it was colouring my opinion of their other products. Their response was that the 5050Xs are a budget pedal and can't be compared to their more upmarket products; and if I had a problem to take it to the retailer.

Won't be buying Crank Brothers again then...

I bought a carbon seatpost from decathlon ages ago.
When I installed it, it slipped during use, so i tightened it some more, and it slipped again.
I tightened it again, and heard a cracking noise.
Couldnt see any damage, so just caried on using it.

I looked at it closely the other day and noticed a slight "ripple" where the clamp seems to have pinched it.

Going to go back to alloy... at some point.

My Enduro was the same. The Attitude adjuster wasn't working properly,Spesh told me that the inner fork leg on an "unknown quantity"had been contaminated with laquer,a fault they knew about before it left the factory.Sorted,6 months on god knows how many miles, over 105,000ft of asecent/descent and its superb. 5 year guarantee on fork/shock so total peace of mind 8)

I agree with Dave about the 5050X pedals, although Ididn't have mine long enough to complain. They were that slippy and shite I binned them after exactly two rides - total and utter waste of time and money.

I've always steered clear of Crank Brothers products because I've heard so many bad things about their design/manufacturing standards - but this response is the clearest signal I've ever seen to give a manufacturer a wide berth. Truly shocking arrogance.

Anyway, their upmarket products seem to have a bad rep too!

Any company that relies so much on style over substance has got to be heading for trouble.

Everybody has their own experience, I have literally thousands of miles on a set of Crank Brothers Mallets and I am only now thinking of changing out the bearings (I am not convinced they need it either). The system works for me and has worked flawlessly for me.

I guess its luck of the draw with CB kit.

Hope mono/mini/m4 all bad luck with that lot, tried the larger sizes as well, went to formula, nothing but sweet braking.

Spent £50 on a spec bg ti rival saddle, felt like sitting on a razor blade despite getting on well with other bg saddles.

Best buy so far as to be my charge spoon, fantastically comfy, not a single hint of soreness.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

    Slime products.

Slime bands on my bike...bang, thorn through the sidewall. Pssssffffffffttttttt.

Slime tubes on a mates bike...bang, green gunge everywhere (only a small hole). Pssssffffffftttttsquirtsquirtdribble.

I now have Bonty tubeless...not ridden them yet though.

(Waiting for the flaming...I relaise that lots of people swear by slime, I might have just been unlucky...)

  • then after chummy (Allen) had stolen skullthaw's nikes he didn't see the lock, fell in and drowned, the dowside was when the nikes dried out they had shrunk two sizes !!!

Im glad someone translated that for me, i couldnt understand a word. :D
  • Currently going through negotiation with LeisureLakesBikes for repair of the bottom bracket of my son's bike which disintegrated, tossing my lad over the top.

LLB want me to return the bike and they will repair it under the warranty but they are in Preston and we are in the Thames Valley so the cost will be considerable - to us.

My LBS took it to pieces for me and what we found inside was very poor engineering. Shattered ball bearings so small they had no load bearing qualities. We bought the bike because of 24seven's previous great reputation - but are now worried that we have a poorly engineered unit that will give problems in another 3 months time. Oh yuck.

I am sure that LLB will agree that I just return the bracket set and they send a replacement to my LBS and fund their installation. A better quality one I hope.

It will please me to see someone on the ball and I promise a progress report as and when.

I bought the Pace RC39 80mms for £440 and they are useless. I would describe the problems but I would be here all day. I know as forks go they are not too exensive but they ruin my whole bike. Can't wait to get rid of them!

Crank Bros certainly aren't impressing me at the moment.

I do love Hope stuff (got two of their QR seatpost binders) though.
