Tufo Tape, Conti Tub

Hi all, first post.
Can anyone shed any light on why I might be struggling to stick Conti Competition tubs on using Tufo Extreme tape?
The tape sticks to the rims very well, and it's the right way round, but just won't stick to the base tape on the tubs along the sides - and it's none too good down the middle either.
Is this a combination that just doesn't work, or am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can think of is that the wheel sat overnight with the tyre fitted but unridden, so maybe the tape dried out a little before it was properly bonded to the tyre - does that make sense?

Doesnt sound very likely to me ? When you say its not sticking very well - how do you mean - can you push the inflated tyre off the rim ?
What rims have you got ? They are rims for tubs arent they ? ;-)0 -
Did you pump the tire up? It needs to be at full pressure for the tape to work. Also did
you peel off the "paper" backing strip? Not trying to make you sound stupid, just making sure you did it right. I've got a set of Conti's glued on with Tufo tape - no problems.
Never had any problems with Tufo. It's not the perfect solution but has worked well for me.

Tufo Extreme sticks like the proverbial to a blanket, so unless your tub base tape is contaminated or you haven't left the tub fully inflated enough, can't see what the problem is.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Cheers guys.
Wheels are definitely of the tubular varietyand the backing tape is off...
Previous tyre was aTufo S3 Pro, which is seamless, the Conti, by contrast, has a pronounced seam ridge down the middle and it's as if it's sitting up on this when inflated; easy to push over far enough to see the white strip down in the middle of the tape, even at 120psi.
Contamination sounds a possibility - I stretched it on a old ally rim that I'd just cleaned up with a combination of lighter fluid and Hammerite thinners, so that may be it.
I have another Conti Comp tub and a couple more packs of tape so I'll have another go, but I'll stretch the new tyre on a clean rim this time. The older I get, the faster I was.0
