Anyone tried these S-series bibs for £30 "made by Assos"

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-Series-by-Assos ... 286.c0.m14

Just wondered if they were any good, or just cheap shorts cleverly marketed?

The blurb says
"S Series products are intended for those who are new to the sport of cycling and/or to the ASSOS world. Being an R&D company, ASSOS constantly moves forward and pushes the boundaries further with the result that, eventually, an ASSOS product is replaced by a better, more technological, one. By simplifying the so far existing product, optimizing manufacturing costs and no longer bearing R&D costs, the price of the product can be lowered. This allows newcomers to the sport of cycling to benefit from a proven technology. Welcome to the world of S Series powered by ASSOS! These shorts are designed and made by Assos but branded as S-Series

I doubt very much if these are made by Assos, and am very dubious by the price also. I say stay clear but it's up to you.

Imo you're not going to get Assos for 30 quid!

If they've got the Assos type of seamless chamois like it says then they would be worth it as IMO that's the best bit about them.

I have shorts that are more comfortable - but the Assos chamois is by far the best.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me to be honest. Just sounds too cheap to me.

I'm not sure Assos is worth the extra to be honest. The pads are huge, and seem to be over more of your ar$e than other pads on shorts. I'll replace my Assos F1s with another make next time - the pad on my trisuit is much less, but seems a bit more comfy if anything.

Well, I think they are authentic. I have bought from that eBay shop a few times and everything I received has been authentic. It can be that those are shop spoiled and may be dirty or something like that but that shop is class. In fact I recommend it very much as their customer support is excellent in my experience!

Well if they were authentic wouldn't they be advertised on the Assos site? Nothing on there about these S series at all.

And if they are made by Assos, I really can't see them having anything near the quality of true Assos shorts, or the inserts either.

Has no-one even considered the possibility that these might be end of line stock that the shop is selling off? Some self appointed experts are too quick to wade in sometimes.

Assos used to do an S-Series range of entry level kit, i.e. cheaper Assos. I think they stopped doing the shorts a couple of years ago. £29.99 for a pair of these is a good price as they retailed at nearly twice that.

I think Highonbikes is a reputable seller who I would hope is not going to sully their shop by selling pirated goods. I have bought several items from them and the service has been second to none, and the items were all genuine and as described. The listing says they are branded "S-Series" but they are made and designed by Assos. It is plausible that Assos may want to market a budget line without competing with their mainstream high-end products.

There are other shops selling S-Series, like

    this
    this
    and this

However, there is a negative review here
and some more mixed reviews here

I reckon Highonbikes is probably genuine in their claims, but I wouldn't expect the quality to match mainstream Assos products, probably on a par with similarly priced goods. They are cheap so there is no great risk, maybe worth a punt.
  • I have bought 2 pairs of these shorts, and they are the most comfortable I have tried. They are a bit on the small side-I normally wear a medium, and bought the second pair in Large which fit better.Excellent support/room for my naughty bits, and a very comfy chamois. Lycra a bit thin and slippery on some saddles, so possibly may not last as long as others.

I've just bought a 3rd pair before you lot buy them all!
