evening all,

im very confuddeld. How can i find out which rear mechs will work with my current set up? does it work on gear ratios? ive recently snapped my mech hanger on my decathlon sport 2, i bought a new one and ive realised ive screwed the mech up too!!

could do with getting a replacement but avoiding decathlon, it took them 3.5 weeks to get the mech hanger in, they are usless!

cheers for any help

2 main criteria for selecting a new rear mech. The mech must match the levers as in brand ie shimano levers and mech, cage length should match your current set up too.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

if you tell us your current setup then we might be able to answer your question.

  • cheers,
from what i can tell the rear mech is a campag. 'xenon' all the ones i can see for sale are 10spd, but im running a 9speed set up.

what other into do you need?

    cheers

    Inside leg measurement

9 & 10 speed are compatible with one another as long as cage length and manufacturer are same then you shouldn't have any probs.

  • cheers,
im guessing that theres a 'common' cage length? most ive seen either seem to be called 'long cage' or do not have it stated, im guessing those are the 'standard' length?

In addition to the above advice a simple guide :

Triple chainset = long / medium cage rear mech.
Standard double chainset = short cage rear mech.
Compact double chainset = long or short cage rear mech, but careful adjustment of chain length needed.

It does not matter if it is 9 or 10 speed as both mechs are compatible.

Main limitation is road mechs can only cope with cassettes going up to around 28 teeth, if you want a MTB cassette you need an MTB mech.

Hope this is some help :D

  • yes it does cheers, ive found out that the 9spd xeno is now discontinued, so just to double double check...

the 10spd xenon, the new one will work? id assume it would be built for a norrower chain?

    cheers

All the mech hangers I've seen ( not many) are just a tab of alloy that the rear mech bolts into. I don't see any need to change the rear mech at all.

If shifting is buggered up now then it just needs re-indexing.

  • i seem to have the strength of a horse as i have twisted the mech cage and sheard a 'knobble' that rests against another one on the hanger which gives the mech its position in relation to the casette and frame.

therefore a new one is required.
  • evenin all, as i have to get it fixed at 'any' cost...

does anyone know where i can get any campag 9 speed rear mech? rarer than hens teeth!!

im desperate! got a 2nd hand one?

    any help is much appreciated

check out the 9 speeds under campag...have mirage and veloce in stock & looks like xenon to order. If rest of it is campag any of these these should work...just email them if any questions, they are pretty good.

    or better deal?maybe flea bay.....
