ISIS
there are basically only two splined BBs: ISIS and octalink
(although there are two versions of octalink: road and mtb)Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Add 1 more to that list . BB30 is also splined . FSA make BB30 cranks .0

Sounds suspiciously like a thread specification to me. M30 x 1P
More normally written M30 x 1.0, meaning thread major diameter (over the top of the pointy bits) is 30mm and the pitch (distance between the pointy bits) is 1.0mm0 -
Sorry 8 splines perhaps i am being too careful and should try putting a bit more pressure and force it on looked up bb30 says its for oversized bb and new technology so doubt its for my £50 crankset.0

My FSA carbon cranks are ISIS.0
-
the BB30 is the oversized BB that Cannondale have used in the past. You know if you have it because the BB shell on your bike is much bigger than usual (think BMX...)
FSA do make cranks for this size but they're pretty rare. I'd be surprised if you have one of these cranks but it's possible.
Much more likely your cranks are ISIS, in which case you need an ISIS BB - it won't fit an octalink BB so don't even try.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
Thanks but if isis is 9 splines then it must b octalink as my cranks are 8 it fits uo against the bb and seems to be right i will try tightening it on with torque wrench.
How many splines do bb30 brackets have and are they compatible with shimano.0 -
have a look here
you should be able to figure out what your crank is from this

scroll down to ISIS
If your crank has 8 splines then it's octalink, and if it's a road chainset it will be the V1 type. Just grease the axle, line the slines up and torque to whatever the instructions say (about 35Nm is suspect).
If you nee to buy a octalink BB then just make sure you get a road one (XTR are V1 too)Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
I'm pretty certain ISIS has 10 splines.

I think you may have a FSA ISIS >
It happened to me the opposite way, I thought I had Shimano and I bought a BB5500 and ended buying a FSA Mega Pro.0 -
fixiebob wrote:Hi all I just bought carbon cranks from ebay that said it was for octalink but when i got them they wouldnt fit my shimano octalink bb seemed like the splines were too wide any ideas what bb i need.
Thanks in advance.'How can an opinion be bullsh1t?' High Fidelity0 -
Fairly sure that FSA used to make some crank arms (SLK for example) in a variety of flavours - ISIS, Octalink and good old fashioned vanilla square taper, before moving onto Mega Exo.0

I'm surprised it didn't fit. I've got carbon FSA and shimano occy was fine. You sure the crank isn't damaged in any way (unless it's brand new)[/quote]
Brand new its going on now but only with a lot of force bb is new 105 one.0 -
Sorted the frame i bought said it had a 105 bb but when i took it out it was a mountain bike one put ultegra bb on prob solved thanx to all.0
