Help needed with cracked frame.

After taking my Trek Fuel 90 to the lbs to have my bb sorted out (the thread had gone on the inside) they also found a crack in the frame. I have checked it's manual which says that the frame has a lifetime warranty and the lbs think that it should be covered under the warranty. How do I now go about getting this sorted? I can't do it through the lbs, or from the shop I originally got it from as I bought it on the internet. Any help is really appreciated, thanks.

I would still try and contact that shop you bought it from. if that fails, contact the Trek importer.
  • Thanks, will do. Will I need to send the frame away?
  • I phoned the shop I got the bike from and they've told me to send them the bike with the receipt, so that's all fine. How do you go about sending a bike though? The shop is too far for me to travel to. Also should they pay for the P&P?

You are liable to get the bike back to the shop, by whatever method.

Is it the whole bike they want, or just frame?

Ask an LBS for an old box. Then ring round couriers for prices.
  • Well they said take everything off the bike which you feel capable doing. So I can take most off it but I don't want to start taking the frame itself apart. It's just I looked to see where their shop is and it would mean traveling the whole breadth of the country!

Parcel2go look cheap enough for the home user. Hopefully they'll be getting my custom when I sell my Avalnanche frame and Fatty forks in a week or 2.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Just nip down to your local post office. Get a box from the bike shop as said, postage about £15 or so usually. Has gone up a bit, but thats a good ball park figure. Maybe, if you are friendly with a LBS, they could send it for you? Mine have done in the past for me...

Parcel2go quoted me inder a tenner for 48hr service.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Well you can take everything off except the headset I'm guessing?
Can get everything off mine inside 10 mins (never did buy that cup remover).

    Strip it and send dude

Dot 4 in the eye hurts. Trust me
  • The shop I bought it from has just phoned me to say they'll get a replacement to me :D . Though it's going to be 3 weeks and the swing arm will be black not silver like the main frame. Do you reckon it will look alright? I've never really liked the silver anyway.
