Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. I'm not new to forums but I'm new to MTBing... I hope you lot don't bite!
I've been considering a new bike for a bit, but decided to have a go at cycling to work on my ex's old one (less than 4 mile round trip) THat went well and I've been cycling more on my way home 3 times a week, so I'm currently doing about 25 miles a week.
This is my third week, come rain or shine, and I'm hoping to pick up a Marin Bear Valley 2009 on Friday.
Why a mountain bike, I hear you ask. Well the route too work is less than 2 miles on the road. My extended route home is 3 miles track and mud  and about a mile on the road. I want to keep fit and the idea of getting covered in mud excites me more than cycling next to buses pumping out diesel fumes... Plus the traffic scares me.
I'm hoping to go to Delamere forest at the weekend to try out my new ride on their 2 cycle route. I know It's not very extreme, but I am a beginner after all.

Hi Tara,
We are a friendly bunch, don't bite. Much ;-)
Good chocie of bike, more versatile than a hybrid and will make the off road sections more fun.
Enjoy!0 -
Thanks for the welcome...
I'm still finding my way round the forum, but will be up for some meets (when I get a bit fitter)The futures bright....

It's a pretty big forum!
Don't worry, we aren't all superfit bike freaks lol, many of us are pretty unfit with beer bellies ;-)0 -
I haven't got a beer belly, it's a pies and chocolate belly.--
Burls Ti Tourer for Tarmac, Saracen aluminium full suss for trails0 -
Mine definitely has a few pies in there. Lowers my COG on the bike...0

Mine seems to be filled with beer and chocolate.
I seem to be the only person I know that can eat chocolate while drinkingReturning to MTB'ing after 13 year break: Merida Matts Sub 60d

Welcome Nicola, I just joined here too and have already received some sound advice. Been out now the last 4 Sundays doing about 25 miles (8 on road/17 off road) and loving it big time.
Small world though is it not? you may know me as Flatsix on other forums. lol.0 -

Strange considering just how big the www is, eh Nicola,
I have roof bars and a cycle carrier so you never know, lol.
Although all the council run bridal paths/parks around here have a height restriction entering the carpark which is clever, not.0 -
Dirty girl is going in the trader at the weekend (no tax or insurance) but company barge should be with me soon... I'll get a rack for the boot.
lol at height restrictions... Do you have to stop and take bike off??? bet you look like a proper muppet!
You wouldn't think it, but I'm still lost for words that I've been found!
Next thing will be Mr pink wheels himself turning up... I know he's just bought a new Full susp bike at the weekend! The futures bright....
