good starting point bike ?

i have been trying to find a decent starting point bike for ages now as you will prob know from my previous posts, i had narrowed search to avalanche 1 and rockhopper but after reassesing finances i think these are pushing my budget a little toooooo far ! i have see this commencal combi disk bike that has taken my fancy but cant find much info on reviews, i would like to know for an entry level bike will this be suitable for the occassional family road bike ride but also be able to handle some treks in the lake district hills ?
