changing shimano sti hoods ?

do you have to remove the bar tape and complete shifter to replace shimano hoods or do they come off easily . its a 105 hood that i need to replace .

    You don't need to remove the bar tape, but will probably have to pull the cables through. On the side of the shifter, under the hood (outside of shifter from memory) is the allen bolt that holds the shifter onto the bar clamp. Undo this and you can remove the shifter. When you have replaced the hood, before you reattach the shifter, thread the brake cable through the outer, as it is a pain to try and do when the shifter is back on the bar.
