Clip on guards

Anyone got any suggestions for more semi permanent clip on guards other than raceblades? They ripped every layer of paint off my steel frame last year so I'm not keen to use them again.

Want something that I can put on for winter club runs. They have to be clip on as I have no eyelets or other such attachment for regular guards

Regards

Not really, but if you stretch some cut up pieces of old inner tube around the frame, and tape tightly in place with insulation tape, it will protect the frame well. If you then zip tie the Race Blades in place, the zip ties will bite into the rubber giving a much better fix.

Other than that you'd need to cut some guards leaving space for the brakes, and fix using some home made brackets. Then, for the stays, either use p-clips or the inner tube and zip tie method I described above. PS don't forget your mudflap or you'll get told off.
  • zefal do some which have very rubbery grips - no damage to my paintwork - less than half the price of raceblades too...

    i got mine from decathlon.

You can fit regular guards with P-clips and cable ties if you have the clearance

If there isn't enough clearance this might be helpful

In fact it's much safer doing it this way. It can be dangerous running with too small a distance between the tyre and guard. it's possible for a small stone to jam and cause a wheel lock up, something you don't want on the front wheel.
