My old waterproof had finally given up. I even retreated the surface with some water repellent spray but to no avail. So I just picked up a Berghaus Tungsten from Chainreaction. Seemed like a good deal and should work as a walking jacket aswell as for cycling. Just wondered if anyone out there has one of these and what they recon? Is it a bit limited to showers or can it take a bit more of a deluge. Anyone washed them regularly (asits likely to get muddy :D ) and noticed the waterproofing has degraded? Any opinions would be appreciated...

someone at works got an old one..nearly got oen myself from CRC.

waterproofing will always degrade over time...you need to wash them properly with soap flakes or a proper tech wash..never use normal washing powers..then I usually reproof with something like nikwax or grangiers (i prefer grangiers) and tumble dry on low.
  • I think thats where I went wrong with the old jacket. Got put in with the other stuff which was probably biological washing powder. I'll hand wash this one in Fairy non bio :)
My wife thinks its an elaborate plan to just spend more money. She may be right
Thanks for the tip on grangiers. I used the nikwax on the old one and it did help but not to the level I was hoping.
