Hi Guys,

Love the forum you all seem very helpfull people.

I'm currently looking for a mountain bike for my girlfriend. It'll be mostly used for riding round the park and hopefully in the future maybe riding through forests etc She currently has a shopper type bike and hates it so its hard to get her out riding, hopefully a proper bike will fix that.

Complicating factors are that she is very short 4ft11 (14" frame?) and budget is tight circa £150

I've found a 2 on the web that fit the criteria and would appreciate your thoughts.

Giant Rock

Muddyfox Ella

Then there is all these wich I'm not sure are sutible as they are 15" frames.

I did look into this kinda thing a few months back when I got a bike for my gf, fortunately I had a little bit more budget which opens the choices up.

She's only 5ft0 so was looking in the same range as you. Trek seem to do a nice range of womens specific mountain bikes which review well, and the 14'' frame is a perfect fit for her. I went with a 2006 trek wsd 4500 from pauls cycles, although thats still £300.

Unfortunately the trek wsd seem to start out at £200 with the 3500, and that is either a 13'' or 16'' frame. All depends on what she wants it for as the 3000 series are I think more hybrid, road things, and the 4000 series are the start of the mountain bike range.

Something like this may be worth keeping a close eye on if you are happy to go for that kinda thing.

Sorry I can't really be more help than that.

Thanks Gibbo It's a great help. I've been looking on Ebay but 14" frames are rare. I totally missed the one you found though well done.

Be a good idea to visit the local shop, see what they have, and sit on a few for size.

Check the What Bike thread for ideas, and a budget bike guide towards the end.
