Just been in to Matalan with my daughter and picked up some nice lightweight shorts with clip belt. Ideal to go over a pair of padded shorts for general riding. I'm sure they'd not take a great deal of hammer, but for £4 you can't really go wrong...they're made out of that polyestamide which dries really quick.

I am considerably more rock and roll than you.
