Seat post clamp size?

Just a quick one. Am I right in thinking that for a 31.6mm post I need a 31.8mm clamp? Or will I need the next size up from that to allow for the couple of mm where the clamp sits over the last bit of the frame?

Just taken my old one off but it does not have a size on it and I know that a couple of mm makes all the difference!

Cheers.

Seat clamp size is the external diameter of the frame seat tube and often bears little relation to the size of seatpost - for a 31.6mm seatpost is going to require something like a 34.9mm for an aluminium of carbon frame - luckily there are only something like 4 or 5 standard sizes. FWIW at 31.8mm clamp would typically be used an a frame which takes a 27.2mm seapost.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Thanks for the quick response! I will get the size you suggest, glad I had my doubts before placing the order.
