Can I use Campag COMPACT front mech with 53/39?

As I says in the subject line:
I'm waving goodbye to 50/34 and returning to 53/39.
Thinking of saving a few squids, I was wondering if I can get away with keeping the Compact front mech that I got for the compact chainset.
Do I need to replace this with a standard front mech, or can I just fettle around to great effect?
