converting old horizontal drop-out 7 speed to 9 speed?

I'm woking on an old Marin frame as a project. It's late 80's i'm guessing and has horizontal dropouts with no hanger. It's a steel frame so im sure the 130mm spacing could stretch to 135mm to fit a modern 9speed hub, but as the drop out has no hanger I'm not sure if i'll be able to do it. The old mech's attachment system is like this http://www.discountbicycles.co.uk/biz/p ... xProd=4650

Does anyone know of a converting system that doesn't mean welding on a hanger? some kind of bracket system maybe?

I'll hopefully be using it for some touring, so a 3X7 would be ok, but the old stuff off the bike is dead, so if I can use spare 9 stuff I've got, rather than sourcing more 7 speed, all the better.

thanks for any advice

presuming that the frame can be spaced, i would have the wheel built up with a saint/hone compatibly hub and use a saint or hone rear mech. it bolt directly onto the 10mm axle. no hanger needed.

    But that needs new stuff.

you may be able to use this for something?
