How far would you DRIVE (each way) for a day's riding?

Although I do have a number of trails right on my doorstep on the Mendips, I love going over to Wales and hitting the trail centres. My nearest is Cwm Carn which is about an hour's drive away. Afan is just under two hours away which is about as far as I'd got for a day's riding; otherwise you're spending more time in the car than on the trails :D

Just curious how far other's are willing to travel really :)

Edit to clarify question.

  • agreed, any further than 2 hrs away and it is an overnighter or in case of the 7 stanes a week of fun!!

I'll go for less than an hour, as that will get you to most good trails in Northern Ireland.

For good trails, I ride between 3 & 4 hours, but that doesn't hapen very much often.

Max I would drive is 2 hours.
I’ve driven to Afan and Coedy form the Midlands (130 miles) for a day riding.

You misunderstood the question; it was how long would you drive for a 1 day ride NOT ride for 1 day ;)

I'm pretty lucky, 2hrs takes in North Wales, the Lakes, the Peaks and the Yorkshire Dales, plus of course all the local Pennine goodness on my doorstep and Afan & Cwmcarn are 30 to 60 mins from the inlaws so I count those as local as well as we're already there and it'd be rude not to take the bike wouldn't it 8) .

So really I don't need to drive for more than 2 hours to get to all the riding I could want.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

Ok... absolute max is just over 2 hours. Thetford for me is just over 2 hours and I've been a few times. Other routes needing driving are around 1 hour. More usually I prefer not to drive and cycle to a few trails nearby - max is about 1 hours cycle on road.

  • Only put "Over 4 hours"... mainly because my dad would be driving  and that if there was a course (would have to have some pretty decent DH) that was worth going to. I wouldn't want to miss it. Thinking of going to Morzine and having a road trip  I imagine that would be over 4 hours
  • Should have put this in my last comment but... As my dad is up on the outskirts of Bristol, I can be in Wales in 1 hour which is quite handy :)
  • I'd drive a fair way for some good riding, but not too often, especially as there's good stuff almost on the doorstep around here. 7stanes has to be a weekend from here.

    Yes I understood, that's why I voted between 1 & 2 hours.

Most of the North Wales trails are within an hours drive for me

I'd drive further, but aching legs while driving back puts me off

You need to get a real car with an engine instead of a kiidies one with pedals then your legs won't ache so much
