I recently got the udderly smooth chamois cream from wiggle, my @rse is still sore , the perineum area feels like the wife has been rubbing a sanding block over it

does the assos chamois cream fare any better than the udderly smooth ?

out of curiousity , how much cream do you lot apply to your chamois or goolies when you heading out for a ride , wonder if i am using enough ?

I've never used assos cream but I've never had any problems with Udderly Smooth. I use Sudocreme these days though, as it's a bit thicker and much cheaper.

Chamois cream can help on long rides but only if you are comfortable in the first place, it's not a cure for poor position or bad shorts. I had a pair that rubbed me raw on rides over 5 or 6 miles no matter how much cream I used.

Are you using cheap shorts and is your saddle set up correctly? It sounds like there could be to much weight on your perineum instead of on you sit bones. Pointing your saddle nose down slightly might help.

You've probably got dodgy shorts or a dodgy saddle or both.

    nope, not at all.

ive adjusted my saddle to get more sit bones on it and see how that works out.

I use stuff called bag balm. not sure you get it over here but i get it in usa. the farmers used to use it on cows udders and there hands in winter so i tried it and it works a treat. its cheaper than chamois balms too.

I don't doubt that Udderly Smooth or Bag Balm work, but what class of agricultural pervert decided one day "Me knackers are killing me. I think I'll put on some of that stuff I rub on the cows". You're just lucky he didn't try sheep dip or gelding shears!

Just out of curiosity are we talking sore or a red looking rash in the crotch(also sore)??
If it looks like a rash it could be the dreaded "jock itch". In which case you may need some
medication for this condition instead of just chamois creme. Chamois creme may help prevent jock itch but usually won't cure it.

Are you wearing anything under the cycling shorts? If so stop. To put it quite bluntly,
maybe you should use a bit more balm and really get it down in there, if you know what I mean, you know, where it feels like the wife has been using sandpaper. That's the place or places to put a goodly amount. On really long rides I carry a couple of one use packets
of some stuff called "Chamois Butt'r." Never know when you may need a quick lube.
    :oops: :oops: :wink::wink:

How good are your shorts? I've found the Lusso Pro 9 Gel ones are very good and not too pricey.

For anyone who does get Jock Itch there is a Canesten cream for atheletes foot (Canesten AF?) which clears it up quick and is availabe off the shelf.
    To err is human,
but to really screw things up you need a shimano - campag mixed drivechain.
