Blackburn 4.0 cadence won't work
:? I just purchased a new Blackburn 4.0 cyclo computer. I am mounting the cadence setup and was going to adjust the magnet. I always try spinning the crank to see if the sensor is close enough to the magnet. I am not getting a reading. I did read the manual wich seems to indicate thyat you can turn the cadence feature off by turning the upper data window on or off. My upper level key doesn't seem to work. I press and hold as indicated and nothing happens. I will say when I quick press the lighted screen feature does work however. Am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my computer?

I also have (had, since the bike attached to it was nicked!! ) a blackburn delphi 4.0 computer and found the cadence sensor to be hopeless i'm afraid. The magnet and sensor have to be ridiculously close to get any sort of reading and because of the oval shape of my chain stays, the cable ties would never keep the sensor firmly in place. I eventually lost patience after dislodging it so many times out riding that i got rid and just used the other bracket supplied and removed the cadence facility altogether. In future I wud splash out on a much better computer if getting one with a cadence sensor.Edinburgh Revolution Curve

Have you Paired the cadence transmitter with the computer unit.I found I had to fiddle with the magnets position untill I got a reading.

i got mine to work quite easily.
stupid question really. Have you put the screen onto the mount on the handlebars otherwise it wont work. Once its on the mount you then push the top button down.
If thats not the problem, do you have the sensor near enough? I used electrical tape to hold my close enough.BMC TM01 - FCN 0

I also have had a problem with the cadence sensor on the Blackburn 4.0 , worked intermittently , I was going to contact Blackburn, and take a flick of the sensor and magnet, had a look down and the magnet had gone
I will persue this cadence/sensor problem with Blackburn if anybody wants me to, and I'll quote this thread.

I have placed the computer into the collar and when I press the upper display/el key for 2 seconds as indicated nothing happens. The little section where the cadence should be displayed is slightly gray. Is this normal? What I am trying to say here is I don't think I am even managing to turn the cadence feature on in the first place. I have installed several cycle computers with cadence in the past and yes you do often have to fiddle with the magnet. In this case however I don't think this is the problem as I have slid the magnet up and down the crank arm and had it so close to the sensor that it rubbed. I am not sure if am turning the cadence feature on properly. From what I understand from the manual, all I have to do is press the upper display/el key for two seconds to turn the cadence feature on if it isn't already on. When I do this nothing ever happens. The screen doesn't change at all. I even tried going through all the modes and in each mode pressing the upper display/el key for two seconds and still can't get anything to happen. If I just tap this key the light does come on so I do know the key does something right. I don't think the problem is on the magnet/sensor end but rather, I feel ether something is wrong with the computer or I may have done something wrong in one of the settings. Could it be that you must first calibrate the computer before this feature will turn on. This has never been the case in the past with other cyclo computers.

im sure you've tried it but try holding the button down a little bit longer. There is no way to turn it on other than that. It could be the holder that is dodgy then because it is to do with the sensors on the back connecting up with the metal sensors on the holder.BMC TM01 - FCN 0

If you're holding the top button down with the unit mountin and no digits are appearing in the blueish bit in the right hand top corner then it's buggered.
Interestingly I bought an extra stem mount for mine when I fitted it the cadence suddenly stopped working, turns out is was a wired speed sensors instead of a wired cadence sensor (they look the same).0 -
