Shimano MT51 and Shimano PD-A530 pedals - probles

Just bought the above but when I try and fit the cleats (supplied with pedals) the cleat mounting bolts are too short..and won't attatch to the shoe!

Are my shoes compatable with my pedals or do I need to buy some more cleats??
