Orange P7 Crankset & BB

It's my friends birthday at the end of the week..

I've decided to buy him a new crankset & bottom bracket, as he can't go more than 30ft without the crank falling off (therefore hasn't ridden this summer), so anything is an improvement..

The bike is a very old (12+ years) Orange P7.. It currently has a square tapered bottom bracket.

I'm guessing I would need to replace the bottom bracket along with the crankset..

I don't want to spend much, around £50.. How do I know which size bottom bracket I need?

Any suggestions please?

you can pick up new Square taper crank sets that will work. ask your LBS what they have.

if you are going to replace the bb as well you will need to measure the bb shell width and then get a suitable bb for the cranks you decide upon.

    Cheers Nick,

So basically take out the old BB and measure it..

    And order a crankset..

Think I will pop into the LBS and ask them... The guy working there used to race the bike, many years ago... Last time I took it there he just starred at it for 5 mins reminising... Maybe I can get a discount!!! :D

well you do not need to measure the old bb just the shell.

But '94 on are 68mm wide.

the rest depends on the cranks which will also depend abit on the number of gears.

If you look at an external type then the bb shell will need facing.
