Importing bikes from USA

Which USA retailers offer the best prices on Trek and Specialized etc (road/MTB/hybrid), at the same time as being export friendly? I imagine some manufacturers make it as difficult as possible to export US to UK. :?

Any help appreciated.

Btw, I am fully aware of import costings (US price +shipping +import duty +VAT +possible handling charge).

I get a lot of parts from JENSONUSA.COM and find them very good. I've never looked at buying a full bike from them but their shipping on parts and accessories is very reasonable and cheap. Might be worth having a look.

Don't forget that your lovely new bike won't be covered by the manufacturers warranty outside of the USA. Should the worst happen, it could get expensive and that saving you initially made will soon dwindle...
  • Also remember that the chances are, your gonna have to pay loads of tax on it,

best thing is to fly out with a junk bike in a bag, then fly back with a shiney new one (you'll have to ride it before bringing it back) then you can just claim it was a biking holiday...

If you're going to the trouble of importing something from the States, why not take advantage of it and get something a bit more exotic than a Trek or Specialized?????

You cant get more exotic than a Trek !!

Remember Lance said "Its not just the rider its the machine" Thats what bike shop said to me. It worked and i brought a Trek 1.7 and my average speed it 12.8mph and not rising.

On a serious note i was looking at Trek 6.9 Pro which is 5,000 GBP here but 3,600 GBP in USA. That is a serious bargain and if i had more than 400 miles experience on a bike then i would definately buy it.

Just use a bike bag or proper holder and dont pay tax !!

You know it will be wasted on an MP's John Lewis Kitchen.

So what's the point? Even if you do bag a bargain at point of sale, chances are by the time it's in your hands the price will be roughly level with the price here.

And what about warranty issues? Or it doesn't suit?
