hi all any 1 got experience with either or both of the above frame sets, due to an accident last year I will have the chance to purchase 1 of the above. Due to injuries my back needs a higher front end but if all goes well I will hope to get back to racing again in around a year. So the frame will have to deal with the odd crit race as well as road racing when the time come. So I thinking cervelo with ultegra sl or the Kinesis with dura aces. ?

Rule normally is to go for the better frame over the better groupset - so I'd go for the Cervelo myself.

The cervelo is the more expensive frame isnt it ?

    RS is about £1600

    Kinesis is £800 - £900.

Personally I'd go with the kinesis with better groupset and better wheels - although it depends on what geometry suits you best.

As much as I love the Kinesis frames the Cervelo is the one to get here, but you might want to consider the R3 instead of the RS, which some people have a problem with the long head tube.

The R3 is a lovely frame, I have ridden one and I know there are a few owners on this forum. Lovely handling and a real 'get up and go' attitude.

  • I have recently built up a Cervelo RS with Chorus, and Ksyrium ES wheels and absolutely love it. I cannot comment on the Kinesis, but am sure its a very decent piece of kit, and I certainly considered it for a while. I've done approx 700 miles so far, including a century ride, and while the ride is good, its still very performance oriented (lively and responsive). Don't be thinking its ride is cushioned though like the (also very good)Specialized sportive oriented bikes.

As Chorus is pretty comparable with Ultegra, I'd say you won't be dissapointed going for the RS, as long as you have enough set aside for some decent wheels to do it justice. For pride of ownership, I think the Cervelo take some beating, and justifies the expense...
  • I'm a huge fan of Kinesis frames, really well put together kit for good money. But you've got to get the Cervelo. The heart of any bike is it's frame and wheels, everything else is there to make it move, point it in the right direction and give you somewhere to put your bum, and the Cervelo is in a different league to the Kinesis. There's also nothing at all wrong with Ultegra SL, it's not like you're having to forego Dura Ace for Sora or anything and if you really want Dura Ace then upgrade it bit by bit. You can't do that with a frame.

    Cervelo, without doubt.

    Who's rule?

Depends whether you're more likely to notice the envious glances at the name on your frame or the differences in functionality I'd suggest.
