have been thinking over this last couple of days as to if its why my chain is lasting a very short period compared to pre littlun!
now the trailer we have is a halfords alluminum one and doesnt weigh all that much, prolly 15lb, but the littlun is in the 32-35lb marker, my bike weigh's aorund the 25lb mark and i am far too heavy!
it got me thinking as the extra weight on the bike as such and the extra effort required is bound to put more stress through the gear even though when up and running its not all that noticeable to have it on the back, would this be a clear cut reason why a chain lasts around 3 months or so when out with her int he trailer weekly along with the normal group rides without the trailer??
i'm not overly bothered byt he time it lasts but would like to know for peace of mind that it is because of that if you like! that way i can stock up a bit on some chains!!
ta in advance for any thoughts on this!

Might well be related, I have a trailer and a tag along and the trailer in particular does take some effort to get it moving compared to setting off normally. Haven't personally had any chain issues yet but I use my old hardtail for towing duties so it isn't racking up the miles like the other 2 bikes. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
hmmmn, will keep an eye on the new chain and see if it seems to wear specifically quickly or not??!Timmo.

Out biking on Dartmoor last week. I was amazed to see a chap cycling off-road, up hill with a todler in tow... That is what you call chain abuse :P09 - Santa Cruz Heckler

^^ I do that with my 4 year old daughter on her tag along, there is one big hill, very steep on my local loop, I did wonder if the chain would survive. Have a sepearte bike for child towing duties thoughIt's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
