Your help needed - The wife wants a better bike than me

Simply - should it be allowed.

I have a Kona Dawg Delux that I've upgraded a few things on so a nice 'all mountain'
bike thats suits me fine. The Wife currently has a Scott Contessa Hardtail (lovely womens bike) Buts she's decided she wants a new bike.

Not that I'm against that as she's paying - but in theory it will be a better bike than mine !!

Surley that cant be allowed & I'm thinking of buying a dirt bike via my works cyclescheme..so that rules out a new 'full bouncer'

  • I'd let her get it as you will never ever lose a "I need this new bit / bike / biking holiday / mistress" (well maybe the last one) discussion again.

Also a women who sees the validity of upgrading is to be cherished. My wife rides a beautiful Marin however her only requirement when shopping for a bike was it needed to be pink. Not interested in spec etc etc. so let her do it, and it is her cash, you cannot lose.

I don't see your reason as to why she can't have a better bike than you?
    stop being silly.
    whats wrong with yours anyway?
  • I agree totally with what you say, but a better bike - Thats just wrong!!!

When we looked for her Scott, it was sold to her on the colour being white & gold....
not that fact it had 'upgrades' from the shop fitted as extras, xt front & Avid 5's......lovely bike..

  • she's actually quicker than me on her Scott, until it gets a bit technical then the full sus comes into play - but this Full sus Scott she's after is a fine bike & she will be flying even more!!

My bike, is lovely :) hence why I'm buying a dirt bike....

The missus gets to ride whatever I'm not riding, Which tends to be the stumpjumper.

Until she starts paying for her own bikes thats how it will continue!

I can't imagine any type of manly man allowing something like this to happen. It sets
a very bad example of men in general. Imagine a women on a better bike. Have you no shame? You'll be the joke all around the country. Get it together girlie man.

Democracy is whereby the people put forward a representative to act upon their behalf.
    You meant - sexual equality.

I wish we had either, here in the UK.

Good idea about the smileys. I'm old and don't think about stuff like that.

I'd make her watch Harry Enfield's "Women - know your limits!" sketch.

That should make things perfectly clear. In fact she can watch it while she's doing the ironing and you're down the pub.
