Shock horror, cycling is my second sport. In a few weeks is the National championships for rowing, and was just wondering what is the best energy substance for pre-race fuel. Its gotta sit light on the stomach and make me twitch on the start line lol Thanks

Hi Matt,
I'd suggest something like a turkey salad sandwich or a bowl of porridge with added nuts and dried fruit about 2 hours before the start This will give you a slow releasing supply of glucose for your race and because you ate 2 hours before it will not sit heavy in your stomach.
If you feel you need something on the start line - you might want to try sipping a carbohydrate energy drink or eating a gel. The trick is not to experiment on the start line though - use your biking to have an experiment with pre-ride/race foods and find the ones that work best for you.
