Adjusting hydraulicdisc brakes a newbie question

On my MTB are a pair of Shimano M485 hydraulic disc brakes. I feel the back brake requires a bit more pulling on the lever before biting than the front. Is there anyway of adjusting this? I don't think it could be worn pads but I haven't checked this as I've only done about 150 - 200 miles on it so far.

I have printed out the tech docs from Shimano but it doesn’t really cover adjustment only topping up with oil and bleeding the system. As a newbie is this something I have to do to get a sharper response or am I missing something? I really want the brakes to bite a bit sooner if that makes sense!!

there is an allen headed rod that you adjust for the reach, adjust it.

if the reach is good then the pads have worn and the pistons have not self adjusted yet. they will do.

check the condition of the pads.
