the problem is it gets stuck as i try to slide it over the top of the stearer tube.
not sure y it gets stuck. iv tried using a little sand paper to take any lip that could be it on but hasnt worked.
any one any ideas what im doing wrong. im also worried with it being so tight to get off it wont go back on.
any help would be very welcome.

if it moves up the rest of the steerer fine and is only catching at the top then the top will have been distorted at sometime.

    kk.
it slides up the steer with a little resistance. e.g the seerer doesnt drop out if i let go without the stem on. but it still moves smoothly up and down with some encouragement

sounds right for a CK as there is the O-ring inside the bearing cap. the top of the steerer should have had a nice chamfer on it before the cap was fitted.

kk iv recently realised that my lbs that did the work are censored mechanics alhtough its a good shop so wasnt sure if they had done something wrong again. iv removed the top now but not too sure on how to get the snap rings out from ontop of the bearings. any ideas?
if not ill just wait for mate to come in he should be able to help.
    thanks

chears was just looking on the site as you posted and found this:
    Remove snap ring and seal:
Take a pointed instrument, such as a penknife, insert it at the split in the snap ring, and lift the pointed end out. Once the pointed end is free, the remainder of the ring can be removed easily. Lift out the inner seal. At this point the bearing will be exposed.

    should sort it out

    got another problem.
as part of the service i decided to regrease front wheel bearings. in doing so iv managed to drop the bearing and have lost 4. does any one know were i could get some from.
i dont have a micrometer to measure them but if any one knows the wheel is a
    KK Disc
    thanks

p.s would the bearings from a Shimano FH-M475 disc hub work?

your LBS should have the balls. You can size them by comparison if you take the old ones in. Definitely worth replacing all the balls on that side though as the replacements might be a slightly different size to the originals.
