I've just listened to an interview on Radio 5 where an idiot woman explains that: yes she is panic buying petrol but that it is all the fault of the government for putting out an announcement to say that there is no need to buy fuel unnecessarily as there is plenty to go round and that it is only if people panic that shortages will occur.

Surely the case for compulsory sterilization is unanswerable.

My office is next to an independent petrol station. We've had queues outside all afternoon and they are very loath to leave enough gap for clients to get into our car park, or for me to get out when I went to get my kids. Thing is I know the owner and he says that 90% are old ladies who fill up every three months and are topping up now because of a 4 day strike which will only impact 10% of all forecourts.

However sterilization will not have an impact as nature has already taken its toll!!

To be fair. I have just gone out and filled up with as much diesel as I possibly could. But it didn't half spurt out when I put the seat post back in and now it's weeping out of the bottom bracket.

    FUNNY!

As for panic buying, it wouldn't be a tragedy if I wasn't able to get in to work for a few days due to fuel shortages, I would just ride my bike instead :D

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

You know what's ridiculous - now I feel like panic buying petrol cause I don't want to miss the Dragon ride on Sunday!

Soon be back to the good ol' days! Sadly I'm old enough to remember sugar and toilet roll "panics" and even the never-used petrol coupons of the early '70s (I've lost mine, good job I don't still have the car to which they related!).

BTW, if anyone has got any savings left, don't put them in fixed rate deals. Once inflation hits 10-15-20, base rate almost certain to follow (B of E site has some interesting stats re inflation/MLR tracking!).

I wouldn't go that far, but some people make a good argument for the introduction of breeding licenses.

Sounds like Index-linked NS certificates would be the safest option in such inflationary times.

I went to the supermarket yesterday at half two in the afternoon and was baffled why they were queueing halfway down the street at the petrol station. I'm one of those people who always manages to turn up at a petrol station when the world and his wife decide to fill up so I put it down to my usual luck and buggered off. Then I watched the news and it all came clear...

I had intended to enter the Newcastle sportive. But, with the price of diesel, I decided to just do the club rude in Sat instead. £40 for fuel just to get to the start line is for me a little steep. So, I for one will not be panic buying - I am definitely reducing my usage.

We were never bothered by the loo roll crisis - just bought kitchen roll and cut it in half. Did some research on it for an HNC Bus. Studies and discovered that loo-roll sales were actually higher during the period of the alleged shortage.

One year later, a woman on my section said that she had just used the last of the supply she laid in during the "crisis". I pointed out that, if she had managed to buy a year's supply, there couldn't have been a shortage. "Oh yes there was", quoth she, "I had to go round half a dozen supermarkets every day to get mine".

"News Flash" HMG has just said there will be a shortage of 3 in 1 oil. Cyclists have been asked not to Panic buy. Most LBS have stocks to last. A Goverment spokesperson{get it}was quoted as saying ."There maybe a BLOCK on supplies ,but we are trying to keep the supply CHAIN running. "A CTC member was reported as saying it's going to squeak for while"

Or "7 in 1" oil as my Nan mistakenly referred to it. Or maybe it has extra properties I don't know about? :?
