Disc not central inside brake...

Hi guys..
Took my front wheel off the other day to get my bike in the car... when I went to put it back in, I noticed something....
When I put the wheel back on, the disc was central - i.e. the gap between the disc and the left pad was the same as the gap from other side to disc to other pad...
However when I tightened up the QR, that pulled the fork in ever so slightly towards the wheel and in turn moved the disc tight up to the pad on the outside, and all the gap was on the other side....
Is this normal?
(Sorry for the crap desc, hope you know what i'm on about)

I assume it was correct before so you may have just over tightened the QR.0

I have this problem sometimes. Just loosen the QR slightly and hold the wheel in the position you want it to be in as you tighten it.0

Another tip is loosen qr, wiggle wheel slightly so that is seats properly and then put weight on the frame to hold it in the correct place as you tighten the QR.0

If you happened to tap your brake lever accidently while the wheel was off the disc pads can clamp up/move, get a flat head screw driver or similar inbetween the pads and twist, pads should pop back to normal position. Putting your bike in the car wrecks your bike and your car, buy a roof rack. cost me 70quid last time i put my bike in the car.0

I would firstly loosen the wheel and make sure it is going on nice and square in the forks then tighten the quick release. This is so if you take the wheel off again it will most likely go back to the same position when you put it on again.
Then adjust the calipers to fit the position of the discs. On my Avid juicy 7's this is done with two bolts on the calipers. Quite fiddly but achievable in daylight.
Before doing this, as Craig said, have you overtightened the quick release? My Ride Stumpjumper Expert 20080
