had a really annoyin creaking for last two weeks. just tighthened everything an still creaking. borrowed some cheap pedals off some old bike and it still creaks

was worried it was the crank so took pedals off and sat on bike and put all weight on just the left crank and lent over on the left side which was when it creaked worse, and no creaking, done same on right crank arm aswell

greased the threads of the pedals and put them back on the cranks, and still bloody creaking just with putting the least amount of force on. i struggle to get it to creak at all if its in the stand, but as soon as i start riding it creaks, it even creaks if i just sit on the bike and put foot on the pedal.

now this bike was a new build by myself, ive had the cranks and bb serviced just to get it checked from the lbs and they say they are fine

there is no play in the crank or movement combined with the creaking so could it be the pedals are knackered, just wondered why it still creaked with the other pedals in, but didnt creak when no pedals in, its getting really annoying now, doesnt effect my riding just noisy

shall i take it back to the lbs??

maybe its your seat creaking. Have you tried tightning the rails and the seat clamp?

Or riding off the seat to see?

Also, what bike do you have?

it's a gt aggressor 3 wih deore xt set up. forgot to say i tried without t seat in and still creaked
could it be t crank or bb as these appear fine and i had bb and cranks go on other bikes and this problem is different as doesn't effect riding

maybe try it with a mates rear wheel in to see if it is the rear hub?

really dont think that its anything to do with back wheel as canhear and feel it coming from t pedal

after reading t review on crc looks its new ones

still baffled as to why other pedals creaked.com I do ride heavy but surely 3 weeks and pedals shouldnt have bust

cranks are deore hollowtech if thats any help

    thanks in advance

took back wheel off and tightened everything up, thought may be cassette so tightened that up and it gave the scary but satisfying creak, although when i heard this it did sound very similar

not seat post as creaks without sitting on seat and also with no seat in lol

only time i got creaking to stop was without the pedals in the cranks and was putting all my weight on the crank arms, i do walk on the outside of my feet and also cycle this way so my feet lean over towards the outer part of the pedal when riding, which i spose would put some extra strain on the pedals

im starting to go mad with creaks lol

the riding is fine, just annoying creak which makes me think its not the cranks or bb etc

    any advice would be appreciated

    thanks

just a thought could it be summin to do with my rusty forks?? it was the only part and the frame i used from my old bike, they werent in the best condition. could it be the headset not tight enough as that looked on its way out aswell lol. just werent creaking straight away but started after bout 2 weeks

could it be my crank or bb is loose, shop said they are fine so cant see it eing that either and also when i put it on nearly killed myself i put the much force to get it tight lol

    anyone help

main thing is should it be safe to ride??
  • the occassional creak or noise can sometimes just vanish on its own but if it bothers you that much I would try to borrow some pedals that are known not to creak ie have a go on someone elses bike with no creak then transfer these pedal to your bike, if the creak is still there it is not the pedals, if it has gone then it is time to buy new pedals.

sometimes its a lot worse than others, and doesnt effect my riding

could it just be a creaky bb or crank and i need to live with it, its the first time ive rode with hollowtech cranks

and clues from any of the pics??

Look at park tools for a guide on diagnosing creaks. It is a process of elimination - could be one of many things.
