Has anybody ridden the 2.3 Protection version specifically?

I'm considering getting a pair as an all-year all-round tyre for XC riding on my Handjob - and maybe as a rear on my Yeti 575.

I've read about their low weight and rolling resistance and decent mud performance, but wonder how much grip they have?

DEFINITELY not an all-year tyre in my opinion. I've currently got a measly 2.1 on the back of my bike, and I frequently find the grip is lacking compared to almost any other tyre I've tried. In the wet, they're verging on dangerous.
They do roll very fast off-road however, but curiously, they drag like mad on tarmac.

Possibly because of the Black Chilli compound?

Very quick, light large XC tyre. As above, not an all rounder. Similar to the Vertical.

I don't have the protection version I don't think just the standard ones. At Dalby I have found them excellent. However today I did Stainburn and I got no traction at all most of the time. Maybe I was running the pressures too high (35psi) but they were certainly not confidence inspiring.

OK, I might have a rethink and go for Mountain King 2.2s instead - as I've been delighted with the 2.4s.

    Cheers guys.

Not much heavier either if you go for the protection version.
