Looks great! Any idea on the weight?

  • Bathroom scales reckon about 27-28 pounds, but i'm not sure. I'm sure it could be made lighter with Float rather than TALAS, but it's light enough for me.

(It feels lighter than my old Stumpy)

Nah, there's a disco black one in Leisure Lakes Bury, the silver forks don't go with the frame.

I take it there's a few new 5 owners out here then?!?!?!

Ill get a pick up as soon as i can....mine's black with a black RS lyrik - looks AWESOME!!!! rides better. Currently knocks the scales at around 32lbs but that's cos she's in DH mode atm - starting to get some true racing in at the moment, its awesome (who needs a downhill rig anyway when you can do everything on one bike?!)

Could'nt agree with you more on that fly4fun I too have the 5AM in Disco black
just wished Orange would have supplied a better tyre than the Mountain kings.

Lost the front end a few times in the mud at high speed yesterday and crap
on the wet roots. Have to get something better.
But a bang on bike

Thanx for that fly4fun I was looking at those in single ply.
What are they like for flat conering at speed?

the 2.35's are a bit on the heavy side at 1125grams per tyre (mine are) but they are the downhill ones. As for grip cant complain. Most corners i take are bermed, but ive had no issues with these tyres at all, they've been fantastic for DH, and ive done a bit of freeride and 4X on them as well as general XC riding...absolutely no complaints (get some!) Though i'm going to get a set of 2.1's as soon as, as the ground is starting to dry out...!

They're great for tackling roots, and conrnering, drag alot compared to the mountain kings though

Nice to see another 5 owner.
I've got the same bike, same colour. I love it to bits, don't tell the wife though.
I've had to replace the headset which was crap after only a few months and I think the bottom bracket is on the way out. I get a lot of creeking while pushing hard up hill. When free wheeling the sound goes away. I will pull it to bits in the morning and check whats wrong.

Has anybody else had similar probs.

    Which 5 have you got?

I built mine up around the frame so no such issues - what cranks/BB are on yours?

1340jas Place your bike upside down and when you turn your cranks, do
you have a ressitance when turning.
If you do the bottom bracket is busted.
When you turn the cranks and they are free flowing and no ressitance
    they are ok.

ive had the same sort of noise on mine since i got mine last year. it sounds like the bottom bracket and makes a noise when you put pressure on the left crank, i can stop it by tightening the back wheel really tight. i think it is the hope hub sending noise through the swingarm.
  • I got a Hope Ceramic fitted when I picked the bike up, hopefully it should last for quite some time

I've got the 5 Pro which has the race face cranks and bottom bracket. I've read somewhere that the BB is not that good. I got the bike in October last year and have ridden it every weekend since. We had some really bad weather during the winter here in Wales ( bit better than the Summers) and the bike got very dirty. I don't use a jet wash to clean it just a lite spray from a hose and lots of hot soapy water.
I will try the advice of grantway this morning before work and see if that finds the problem.

I'll let you know what causes the problem, if I can trace it.

The idea of a 5 day earlier in this post sounded really good. You are all invited to Cwmcarn next Sunday morning if you fancy it.

Can't make that but being a Bristolian CwmCarn works for me!

Mine was only about 4 days but I had a standard colour (fools gold) and it was back in Feb before the MBR 10/10 review that seems to have boosted sales big time!
  • mine was two weeks, but that was special order because of the colour.

Thats a pretty good turn around time, I hope mine will only take 2 weeks!

  • I bought it form Leisure Lakes, they told me they can get them quicker than most dealers because they buy more. Don't know if that's true or just sales bull!
